Within Diving, the possibilities are endless. Go further, explore more, and provide a service to those equally as curious and excited as you are. Scuba Instructors must embrace responsibility and value of the knowledge they have acquired. Instructors are authorized and can be approved to teach every level of diving in which they possess the training, knowledge and experience. As an instructor, participants open many paths and can develop their own “instructor specified” specialty courses. There are so many more adventures available to study such as: Public Safety Diver, Technical Diver, Night Diver, Wreck Diver, ETC.
Overview
The Instructor Training Course (ITC) was created to train and qualify Instructor applicants who are not only safe, knowledgeable, have the proper attitude, skills, and fitness but are also passionate and excited about Scuba and everything it entails. During this course, candidates will learn effective teaching methods to tackle different ways of learning effectively and patiently in compliance with diving course standards.
Qualifications of Graduates
- Instructor course graduates are qualified to apply for Instructor membership in any status provided for in the bylaws of the association.
- An active-status Instructor may independently teach sanctioned courses and authorize certification for graduates. An active-status Instructor may independently conduct recognition and experience programs and authorize formal recognition for graduates.
- An active-status Instructor who completes a DAN First Aid Instructor orientation, who has completed all required DAN orientation modules and is using the DAN training and support materials, may teach the DAN First Aid programs.
Prerequisites For Entering The Course
- Minimum age is 18 years by the water phase of the course.
- Current certification as an Assistant Instructor or Divemaster or other agency leaders.
- Current certification as an Open Water Scuba Diver or the equivalent
- Current certification as a Rescue Scuba Diver or the equivalent
- Current certification as a Nitrox Diver or the equivalent
- Current certification as a Master Scuba Diver or the equivalent
- Current certification in First Aid for the Diving Professional or equivalent.
- A minimum of 60 logged open water scuba dives with a minimum of 30 hours bottom time. Dives shall be varied in environment, depth, and activities.
- Instructor candidates must pass the Instructor Prequalification Examination prior to the start of the ITC.
- Medical Approval – Verification of good physical condition as documented by a medical examination and unconditional approval for diving by a licensed physician within the preceding 12 months.
